IMPACT & SUSTAINABILITY
at KAFFEEHAUS coffee is more than a drink – it’s our world.
At KaffeeHaus, coffee is more than a drink – it’s our world. We are a father-daughter duo dedicated to crafting memorable coffee experiences. Every cup is a reflection of our core values: compassion, care, and community.
Compassionate Relationships
We strive to build compassionate relationships – with ourselves, with staff and with the whole supply chain from coffee farmer to end customers. Looking after ourselves and staff, from talking about mental health and implementing healthy practices and routines, to allowing flexible working hours to reduce stress and fitting in family routines, is important to us.
Although it is not always easy, because supply chains are complex, we are committed to building long term relationships with coffee producers and green been suppliers, investing in direct trade relationship where possible to help producers to build more sustainable businesses with a focus on quality, fair prices, sustainability and community support. The coffee we import is traceable, assessed and quality graded by experts within the Speciality Coffee Association’s guidelines and producers are paid a premium for their quality over and above the market price.

Care for the Enviroment
We strive to care for the environment along the whole supply chain, from only sourcing speciality grade coffee, seeking connections based on sustainable practices. Being an environmentally friendly company is important to us and we are continually striving to do our best. Being eco-friendly is sadly not always an easy journey to embark on. We employ the principles of Reduce Reuse Recycle across our business.
Our environmentally conscious approach includes the following:
- We roast on an Air-Motion Roaster – an all-electric low emission roaster.
- Our coffee bags are made from LDPE 4 plastic which is widely recyclable at big supermarkets.
- All of our shipping boxes and envelopes are fully home recyclable as is our paper packaging tape.
- We only buy and stock Hario project Waterfall V60 papers as they are packaged in paper boxes rather than plastic.
- We reuse as much as we can in our roastery. For example: green beans are often packaged in plastic bags within the jute bags. We reuse these plastic bags for bin bags and pass them on to surrounding business to do so too. The jute bags we sell at the roastery for a donation to ‘Willowburn Hospice’, one of our local charity partners.
- We collect the chaff from roasting and spent coffee grinds from our espresso machine for locals to collect and use in their allotments and gardens.
We support our local re-fill shops by buying our hand soaps and washing up liquid from them.

Community Focused
We strive to be community focused, giving back and looking after our own community wherever and however we can, creating a warm & welcoming space for people from all walks of life, religion, and sexual orientation, aiming to make quality coffee more accessible. Embarking on different projects, we donated coffee to our local community centre and provided discounts for the NHS and Defence Service personnel.

Our Partners
We have partnered with Point North, a Durham based community foundation to support grassroot programs and community groups in and around the North-East. Point North work with donors and supporters who want to make a difference in the lives of local people and who join us in our mission to fight poverty and enrich lives.
Furthermore, we also partner with The North-East Community Forest, to create liveable, sustainable communities, help tackle climate change and biodiversity collapse, support regeneration, and provide opportunities for relaxation and leisure.
With regard to the supply chain, we partner with businesses who share our values. Rwamatamu coffee is a great example. This family-owned coffee plantation and washing station in Rwanda strives to combat poverty in their local communities by creating jobs in harvesting and processing coffee.
